Objective Five: Easy and Inexpensive Content Creation

DEMML content will be standard Extensible Markup Language (XML) files. The content that the user sees will be standard text, HTML or XHTML content embedded within those XML files. Anything that can be displayed on a web page can be displayed in DEMML using the exact same formats and standards. This includes multimedia and interactive scripts or even Flash presentations. Like XML or HTML, DEMML content can be created using a simple text, XML, or HTML editor. In order to make it easier for content creators to adhere to an XML based standard, there are many popular programs available which read in the files used to define an XML standard (called a DTD or schema) and keep the user from making mistakes. Even so, it will be beneficial for special purpose software to be designed to facilitate the authoring of content. The standard is designed so it will be easy for developers to use existing code modules to piece together basic DEMML software. This can then be used as a foundation onto which they can build additional functionality.
