Objective Two: Classification

Equally important is a method for classifying all of this vast quantity of tiny bits of data (the items). This system is called the Distributable Educational Material Classification System (DEMCS). It is based on the Library of Congress Classification System but with extra encoding added in order to classify each individual, very specific topic. This will require the cooperation of a multitude of different educational organizations to agree on standard hierarchical trees of the subjects and topics within their disciplines. This system can also be used to mark topics in textbooks and paragraphs in web pages for easy reference to additional material available within the DEMML system or for easy and very specific searching.
