Though it is still rough and only covers the fundamental constituents of a DEMML™ topic, the DEMML_0.1 schema is available for viewing here.

Created DEMML™ blog site.

It took me a while to get around to creating a blog but it is finally up. (Updated July 8, 2009)

Objective Four: Display

Naturally, students will need some means of viewing all of this educational material. The DEMML format is designed so, if no other software is available, a user can still view the content using a plain web browser. Of course, this isnt ideal but it does allow anyone with a web browser to look up an additional explanation if they need one and it makes it easy for users to get started using the system. Additional software must be designed to download the DEMML content from distribution servers, store that content in a local database, and display that content to the user. This software could have additional features designed to make even better use of the content provided by the DEMML system. A major underlying goal in the design of the standard will be to incorporate means to support as many of these additional features as possible but in a standardized manner.

Some students may choose not to install special software on their computers. Or they may want to get access to their content from any computer on campus. For this reason web sites may be created that achieve the same goal as desktop software. Students could log on and do all the same things that they would do with desktop software except disconnect from the internet and take it with them. The web sites would be allowed to use all the same content as long as they did not charge a fee for the content itself.

It will not be a goal of the DEMML organization to create this software or these websites directly. Instead, DEMML will promote the creation of these by third party developers as outlined in Objective Nine: Promote the creation of third-party software.

Next: Secondary Goal: Inexpensive education for everyone in the world...
